The US National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter storm warning for areas of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California state effective from Wednesday, May 15, to Friday, May 17. A late season snowstorm is expected to bring 15-30 cm (6-12 in) with localized amounts up to 60 cm (24 in) from Wednesday evening (local time) to Friday morning. High winds are also possible and may result in significantly reduced visibility. Transportation disruptions are possible, particularly in mountain passes, along with chain controls and regulations.
