Protests over the detention of Opposition Forum for Change (FDC) party officials resulted in running battles with police on Thursday, May 2, in Kiboga (Central region). The clashes reportedly halted business and traffic flow in and around the town for more than two hours after local residents obstructed roads in the area. The detained FDC party leaders were reportedly released and escorted by police out of Kiboga.

A heightened security presence and residual disruptions to traffic are likely in the area over the coming hours.
