Ongoing protest by retired military in several cities May 13; blockages reported

Former Lebanese soldiers are protesting in several cities as of Monday, May 13, to denounce possible alteration of current pension agreements under a new budget law currently under debate by the government. Protesters have reportedly blocked the entrance of the Lebanese Central bank in Beirut during the early morning hours (local time) as well as the entrances of the bank's branches in Jounieh and Zahle. Road blockages have also been reported on the Dahr al-Baydar highway.

Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are expected within the vicinity of all demonstration sites

Context

A similar protest by military veterans took place in Beirut and Jdeidet Marjeyoun on May 10. Protesters blocked roads with burning tyres.
