Climate change protests planned in Nicosia May 3 and May 12; localized traffic disruptions expected

Climate change protests are scheduled in Nicosia on Friday, May 3, and Sunday, May 12. Youth for Climate Cyprus plans to hold a demonstration outside of Parliament on May 3. Unconfirmed reports say that the demonstration will begin at 10:30 (local time). Mothers in Cyprus will march outside of Parliament beginning at 10:00 (local time) on Mother's Day, May 12, as part of the global "Mothers Rise Up" initiative. They are expected to conclude their march at the Presidential Palace. Protesters in both demonstrations are demanding stronger government action to combat climate change.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected near the demonstration sites.
