Thousands of people protested perceived economic marginalization and poor living conditions amid a related strike in Sidi Bouzid (Sidi Bouzid province) on Monday, April 29, resulting in significant traffic disruptions and the temporary suspension of public services. The protest and strike activity notably come after a traffic accident in Cebalet (Sidi Bouzid province) left at least 12 people dead on Saturday, April 27.

Similar protests are possible in Sidi Bouzid province over the coming weeks. Heightened security measures, as well as traffic and business disruptions, are to be expected near protest sites. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
