Retired military and security personnel protest in Beirut April 30; blockages reported

Protests by former Lebanese soldiers and security officers were reported in Beirut on Tuesday, April 30. The retired personal are protesting to denounce possible alteration of current pension agreements. A group of protestors reportedly gathered at Riad al-Solh square early in the morning (local time) before heading towards the port of Beirut, where they closed all entrances. Another group met at Sanayeh Park and marched towards the Central Bank of Lebanon, where they similarly blocked the entrances.

Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are expected within the vicinity of all demonstration sites.
