Supporters of Ata Meken Socialist Party are expected to hold a rally in Bishkek on Tuesday, April 23. According to the organizers, at least 6000 people are expected to gather in front of the Supreme Court building at Old Square to demand justice for imprisoned politicians, including for their leader and ex-deputy Omurbek Tekebayev. The event is planned on the same day that the Supreme Court is slated to review the criminal case against Tekebayev.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the rally.

Context

In 2017, Tekebayev, among other politicians, was sentenced to eight years in prison on corruption and fraud charges.
