Orange weather alerts for strong winds issued in multiple states March 4-5; transportation disruptions possible

On Monday, March 4, weather officials issued orange weather alerts (the second-highest on a four-tier scale) for strong winds in most of northern, eastern, and southern Germany. A red weather alert (the highest on a four-tier scale) for strong winds was also issued in Harz district (Saxony-Anhalt). According to the European National Meteorological Services (meteoalarm), the alerts will be in effect through Tuesday, March 5. Related transportation disruptions, hazardous driving conditions, and power outages are possible.
