At least seven suspected jihadist militants killed and one police officer wounded during a shooting in Giza (south of Cairo) March 7

According to police reports, seven suspected jihadist militants from the Hasm Movment group were killed by security forces during fire exchanges on the urban ring road in Giza, south of the capital Cairo, in the morning (local time) of Thursday, March 7. Three of the suspected jihadists were reportedly killed while carrying an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in their truck and four others were found and executed in a nearby apartment. A police officer was also wounded.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected near the site of the incident over the coming hours.

Context

The Hasm Movment group emerged in 2016 and has been responsible for several attacks in Egypt since then.
