Violent clashes continue in Dembiya Woreda (Amhara region); at least 30 people killed as of mid-February

Clashes between members of the Amhara and the Kimant communities continue to be reported in central and western Gondar (Amhara region), notably in Dembiya Woreda, as of mid-February. According to media reports, at least 30 people were killed and 45,900 more displaced following violent clashes in the area in early February. Further violence and associated protests are possible in the near term.

Individuals present in Gondar are advised to monitor the situation, avoid any large gatherings and demonstrations due to the risk of violence, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities or their home government.
