Anti-government march planned in Dakar January 4; heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions expected

Anti-government activists are planning to stage a "One Million March for Senegal" in Dakar from 15:00 to 19:00 (local time) on Friday, January 4, to protest the administration of President Macky Sall and the alleged suppression of opposition candidacies. Leaders of the C25 coalition have also announced a "One Million March" demonstration in Dakar on Tuesday, January 8, beginning at 15:00 (local time). A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected near related demonstrations. Further protests are possible in the coming days and weeks.
