India: Smog disrupts flights in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Delhi January 14

Smog disrupts flights in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Delhi January 14, with over 150 train cancelations reported in northern India; further disruptions possible over the coming days

Warning

Event

Heavy smog disrupted dozens of flights in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Delhi on Monday, January 14. Over 150 trains were also canceled in northern India. Further transportation disruptions (e.g. additional flight and train delays and cancelations) are possible over the coming days, particularly in Delhi, where smoggy conditions are forecast to persist.

Advice

Individuals in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather forecasts, prepare for lingering transportation disruptions, and confirm flight and train reservations. Due to health risks associated with air pollution, it is advisable to limit outdoor activities. Pollution is especially hazardous to vulnerable individuals (e.g. children, seniors, pregnant women, and individuals suffering from asthma and other respiratory issues). If experiencing breathing difficulties, seek medical attention, particularly if new symptoms appear (e.g. cough, sore throat, irritated eyes).
