Hong Kong: Additional trains for Lunar New Year holiday (Jan. 31 – Feb. 11)

MTR Corporation will boost train services on Hong Kong's high-speed, cross-border rail line from January 31 to February 11 during the Lunar New Year holiday to address the expected influx of tourists. Officials indicate as many as 190 trains will run per day to and from Hong Kong West Kowloon station- 164 for short-haul trips and 26 for long-haul trips - compared to 166 trains during regularly scheduled service.  

Context

Although Hong Kong is part of the People's Republic of China (since 1997), it remains a Special Administrative Region with its own immigration controls. It is possible to visit Hong Kong for up to 6 months without a visa. For people working, studying or staying for a period longer than six months, a visa is required, with a passport valid for at least one month after the date of departure from Hong Kong.
