Algeria: Flooding kills at least five people as of January 26

Authorities report at least five people died due to flooding in several provinces as of January 26; snow affecting travel in northeast

Authorities recovered the bodies of five people following severe flooding between Friday, January 25, and Saturday, January 26. According to local reports, two people were swept away and killed by flood waters in Tizi Ouzou and Tipaza provinces, while another three people died in Annaba and El Tarf provinces. Emergency crews also rescued more than 100 people stranded by floods in 17 provinces as of Saturday, while multiple roads in northeastern provinces are closed due to heavy snowfall. The army has been deployed to clear and open roads in affected areas. Lingering transportation disruptions are to be expected in the affected areas over the coming hours and days.
