UK: Saturday rail strikes on Northern lines Nov. 3-Dec. 15

RMT union plans strikes every Saturday beginning on November 3 through December 15; disruptions to rail service expected

Warning

Event

Members of the Rail, Maritime, and Transport (RMT) union employed by the Northern rail are planning weekly 24-hour strikes every Saturday beginning on Saturday, November 3, through Saturday, December 15, as part of a long-standing dispute with Northern railroad over train personnel.

Consequent disruptions, including delays, to Northern rail services in the North East, North West, and Yorkshire are expected. Rail services will run at 30 percent capacity on lines from Cumbria, Merseyside, Yorkshire, and Lincoln.

Advice

Travelers are advised to monitor developments to the situation, plan alternate routes, and to allow for extra time to reach their destinations for the duration of the strike.
