Heightened security, large crowds, and significant disruptions expected during Hindu festival of Diwali November 5-6

The Hindu festival of Diwali (also known as Deepavali) is expected to attract large crowds in the Little India district of Singapore from the evening (local time) of Monday, November 5, through November 6. Traffic restrictions and a heightened security presence are to be anticipated in the area, including the adjacent Serangoon Road. Local authorities have warned that crime rates are expected to rise during the festivities, although crime levels in Singapore are generally very low. The setting off of firecrackers and other improvised explosive devices has been prohibited. Businesses, government offices, and banks will be closed throughout the city-state on November 6, which is a public holiday.
