Kuwait: November 6 declared public holiday due to severe flooding

November 6 declared public holiday after severe flooding impacts Kuwait; associated transportation disruptions expected

Warning

Event

The government of Kuwait declared Tuesday, November 6, a public holiday for all governmental institutions and public and private schools and universities, due to the heavy rain and flooding, which has affected the country in recent days. Severe flooding caused road closures and significant transportation disruptions.

Further disruptions, including potential flight disruptions at Kuwait International Airport (KWI), are expected, with rain and thunderstorms forecast daily in the country until at least November 10.

Advice

Individuals in Kuwait are advised to follow weather forecasts in the coming days and adhere to any advice issued by the local authorities (e.g. potential evacuation orders). In the event of flooding, keep in mind that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
