Guinea: Protests in Conakry November 27 and 29

Event

Female supporters of the political opposition have called for a demonstration to be held in the Ratoma district of the capital Conakry on Tuesday, November 27, to mourn and demand justice for those killed during recent opposition protests. Women activists announced that further protests would be held until their demands are heard.

Furthermore, supporters of the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG) opposition party have called for a march to take place in Conakry - from the Dixinn neighborhood to the Palais du Peuple - on November 29.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected near protest sites; clashes between security forces and demonstrators cannot be ruled out.

Context

Opposition protests have been held since mid-October to denounce the government of President Alpha Condé and the fact that some officials elected in controversial local elections held February 4 have not yet been sworn in. At least 100 people have been killed in clashes with security forces since Condé took power in 2010.
