Kenya: Kenya Airways workers barred from striking on October 28 US flight /update 1

October 26 injunction bars Kenya Airways workers' strike on US-bound flight scheduled for October 28; flight delays and cancelations expected if strike goes through

Warning

Event

On Friday, October 26, Kenya Airways secured an injunction from a labor court barring strikes on Kenya Airways' first US-bound flight from Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) to New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), scheduled Sunday, October 28. While union officials assert that no strike is currently planned, minor labor stoppages may still occur. Associated air transportation disruptions (i.e. flight delays and cancelations) are to be expected on this and other Kenya Airways flights if the strike goes through.

Context

Unions representing workers at Kenya Airways have threatened to stage a strike starting on October 28 should the airline not address their concerns regarding a dispute over salaries.

Advice

Travelers are advised to monitor developments to the situation and to confirm flight reservations prior to leaving for the airport.
