A Lion Air commercial flight crashed into the sea shortly after taking off from Jakarta’s Soekarno Hatta International Airport (CGK) at 06:33 (local time) Monday, October 29. The plane was headed to Pangkal Pinang (Bangka Belitung Islands province, Sumatra) and lost contact with the authorities 13 minutes into the flight. Some 189 people were on board. As of yet, no survivors have been identified and the cause of the crash is under investigation. Search and rescue operations are currently ongoing.
