Workers at the SNCF, France's national rail operator, will take part in the general strike set to take place nationwide on Tuesday, October 9. Minor disruptions affecting Transilien, TER, and Intercité trains are expected throughout the day. High speed trains (TGVs) and RER commuter lines in the Paris region are currently not expected to be impacted.

An associated demonstration is set to take place in Paris. Participants will gather at 14:00 (local time) at Place du 18 Juin before marching to Place d'Italie via Raspail Boulevard, Place Denfert-Rochereau, and Saint-Jacques Boulevard. Traffic and bus disruptions along the march route are expected.

As a reminder, Easyjet cabin crews will also take part in the strike, which could result in flight delays and cancelations. Disruptions to public transit are also possible in various cities.

Context

According to union representatives, the strike is being organized to defend the rights of workers, students, pensioners, and the unemployed.

Advice

Individuals in France are advised to keep abreast of the situation, avoid all protests as a precaution, confirm travel itineraries, and allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
