At least 12 people were reported injured after an unknown person discharged what is believed to have been a shotgun on Claremont Road in the Moss Side area of Manchester shortly before 02:30 (local time) on Sunday, August 12. One of those injured suffered a broken leg, while the other victims presented at the hospital with "pellet-type" injuries; none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening. Local police are investigating the incident as an "attempted murder" and have said they do not believe it to be gang-related; authorities were continuing to search for the assailant as of Sunday evening.

Context

Earlier in the day, approximately 16,000 people had attended the annual Caribbean Carnival nearby, which ended at 20:00; the attack occurred during an unofficial street party taking place after the official carnival.
