Thailand: Western provinces bracing for floods

Individuals in western provinces advised of likely river-side flooding amid heavy downpours

Warning

Event

The western provinces of Phetchaburi, Kanchanaburi, and Prachuap Khiri Khan are bracing for floods. On Sunday, August 5, following days of heavy rain, authorities warned that several large dams were nearing capacity leading to necessary water releases, which are expected to result in flooding in areas downstream.

Additionally, the west of the country is forecast to receive further rain over the next few days as a result of the strong southwestern monsoon.

Advice

People in areas along rivers in Phetchaburi, Kanchanaburi, and Prachuap Khiri Khan are advised to closely monitor water levels, evacuate vulnerable people (e.g. children, elderly, and the sick) from flood-risk areas, move belongings to higher ground, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
