Libya: Violent clashes in Tripoli August 27

Event

Violent clashes broke out between rival armed militias in southern Tripoli late on Sunday evening (local time), August 26; at least four people have been killed and seven others have been injured. According to local sources, heavy gunfire and explosions have continued in parts of the city as of Monday, August 27. Details regarding the situation are still emerging. Additional clashes between armed forces are possible in the near-term. Due to the proximity of the fighting, likely transportation disruptions at the Mitiga International Airport (MJI) are to be anticipated in the coming hours and days.
