Teachers belonging to the General Labour Union of Lebanese workers and the Committee of Professional Teachers in Vocational Education are planning to stage a protest on Riad al-Solh Square, located in the center of the capital Beirut, on Tuesday, August 28. The demonstration is expected to start around noon (local time). Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are expected around the demonstration.

Context

Teachers in the public and private education sectors have been protesting for months, some demanding long-term contracts and others calling for higher wages since the adoption of a salary hike for other public sector workers was passed in July 2017.
