China: Shenzhen airport shuts runway after emergency landing (Aug. 28)

Event

On August 28, Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport (SZX) shut one of its runways for several hours after an emergency landing of a domestic flight, caused by mechanical problems. The aircaft was en route to Macau from Beijing. Five passengers were slightly injured. The plane was carrying 157 passengers. Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport is one of the three largest airport hubs serving the Pearl River Delta, alongside Hong Kong International Airport and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. Over 45 million passengers transited through SZX in 2017.

Context

Several plane incidents were recently recorded in China, however without injuries. In July, a passenger plane was forced to make an emergency landing after it was damaged while flying through a storm. In May, an aircraft operated by Sichuan Airlines was forced to make an emergency landing in Chengdu after its windscreen fell out, causing the loss of cabin pressure.
