Afghanistan is currently facing a severe drought. The most affected areas include Balkh, Ghor, Faryab, Badghis, Herat, and Jowzjan. According to humanitarian officials, 10,000 people have been displaced in recent weeks between different districts in Kunduz province. In addition, an estimated 4000 people have been displaced from Muqur district to Qala-e-Naw.

As a result, a lower-than-average crop yield is expected this year. According to the UN, an estimated 1.4 million people will require humanitarian aid in the coming months.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to conserve water wherever possible, to monitor developments to the situation, and to follow instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid all associated demonstrations.

On a separate note, the security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Although travel is permissible in some areas, other areas should be considered strictly off-limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
