Thailand: Heavy rain forecast in North and Northeast July 24

Heavy rain forecast to hit North and Northeast regions on July 24; consequent flooding and transportation disruptions possible

Warning

Event

The Thai Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rain is forecast to hit the North and Northeast regions through Tuesday, July 24. According to weather officials, flash floods are possible in these areas. The Thai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department has placed rescuers on high alert in 20 provinces in the North and Northeast regions. Transportation disruptions, evacuations, and power outages are possible in the coming hours and days.

Advice

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid areas directly hit by flooding, prepare for transportation disruptions in low-lying areas, and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
