Warning

Event

Violent clashes between security forces and demonstrators broke out during a protest on Friday, July 13, in the Trehgram area of Kupwara district (Kashmir region). According to local sources, the protests erupted after security forces prevented mourners from marching to a cemetery to pay their respects to a man who was shot and killed in the area on Wednesday, July 11. A heightened security presence is to be anticipated in the area in the coming days. Further protests are possible in the near future.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to avoid all public gatherings or protests and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities. As a reminder, some Western governments advise their citizens against travel to parts of Jammu and Kashmir state, notably areas along the Line of Control (border), due to the significant risk of violence.
