A stabbing attack was carried out by masked individuals during an abortion rights march held in the capital Santiago on the evening of July 25. Three women and a police officer were injured. The perpetrators also erected barricades as a counter-protest.

Context

Feminist groups held marches in cities nationwide, including in Santiago, Valparaíso, Temuco, and Antofagasta, on July 25 to call for free and legal abortions. This is a controversial issue in predominately Catholic Chile, as well as elsewhere in Latin America.
