Algeria: Air Algerie maintenance workers to strike July 31

Air Algerie maintenance union plans to launch an indefinite strike July 31; service disruptions expected if the strike is held

Warning

Event

The National Union of Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (STNMA) announced on Monday, July 23, that its workers will launch an indefinite strike if Air Algerie general management does not resume talks with the workers. According to STNMA leaders, the strike will start on Tuesday, July 31, at 07:00 (local time). Significant service disruptions are possible for Air Algerie flights if the strike is carried out.

Context

STNMA leaders said that management has refused to open a dialogue with them to address certain grievances, particularly regarding the hiring of expatriate staff, working conditions, and salary increases. Union members also claim the recruitment of seasonal staff and workers for Hajj flights are taking jobs away from skilled workers with seniority

Advice

Travelers flying with Air Algerie are advised to monitor the situation and confirm flight reservations.
