Myanmar: Parliamentary elections set for November 3

Parliamentary by-elections will be held throughout Myanmar on November 3 to fill the thirteen vacant seats. Political gatherings are likely to take place in the weeks leading up to the election. An increased security presence and associated transportation disruptions are expected in the vicinity of all election-related events.

Context

Four open seats are with the House of Representative (Lower House), one in the House of Nationalities (Upper House), and eight with the state parliaments. These will be the first parliamentary by-elections after U Win Myint was elected as president on March 30, 2018.
