Event

Peru will host the Organization of American States' (OAS) 8th Summit of the Americas in Lima on Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 14. The summit will be held at the Lima Westin Hotel, the Gran Teatro Nacional, the Palace of Government, and the Lima Convention Center. Transit on Javier Prado between Avenida José Gálvez Barrenechea, Avenida Del Parque Norte, Avenida Guardia Civil, Avenida San Luis, and Avenida Canadá will be diverted in both directions as well as traffic on Avenida Aviación between Avenida San Borja Norte and Avenida Canadá, leading to significant road disruptions. From Friday through Saturday, the La Cultura Metro Station will be temporarily closed, but the rest of the Lima metro is scheduled to run as normal. Peruvian officials have announced that more than 16,000 police officers will be assigned to provide security for the Summit.

Context

During this summit, representatives from OAS member countries will discuss democratic governance, corruption, public-private partnerships, and environmental reforms.

Advice

Individuals present in Lima during the April 13-14 summit are advised to anticipate heightened security throughout the city, increased congestion (particularly at major travel hubs), and to allow for additional travel time.
