Warning

Event

Police are investigating two explosions in the city of Austin (Texas) that occurred on Monday, March 21. The first incident occurred at approximately 06:45 (local time) in the northeastern area of the city on Old Fort Hill Drive. An unidentified explosive device in a package detonated inside a residential home, killing a teenager and wounding a woman. A second explosion was reported in southeastern Austin on Galindo Street at approximately 11:50, wounding one woman. It is unclear if the two incidents are related. An investigation is ongoing.

Context

According to police officials, the first explosive device was hidden in a package that was left on the doorstep of the house overnight. Authorities believe that the package bombing is related to an earlier incident on March 2 that killed one person. The March 2 incident also involved a package bomb being left on the front doorstep of a house. Neither package bomb was delivered by a mail service.

Advice

Individuals in Austin are advised to monitor the situation, report any suspicious activity or behavior to the police, and to not open any unexpected packages. Police are asking residents to call 911 if they receive a package they are not expecting or which looks suspicious.
