US Embassy in Ankara closed through March 6 due to security concerns; Turkish authorities arrest 12 suspected Islamic State members

The US Embassy in the capital Ankara - which temporarily closed on Monday, March 5, due to security concerns - announced it will remain closed at least through Tuesday, March 6. Only emergency services will be provided during this time. The embassy has also advised US nationals to avoid large crowds and remain vigilant in popular tourist sites. An increased security presence is to be expected surrounding the US Embassy and throughout Ankara more generally in the coming days.

On Monday, Turkish authorities announced the arrest of 12 suspected Islamic State (IS) members, with eight additional suspects being pursued.
