Taiwan: 4.5-magnitude strikes Taipei region January 17

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake rattled the northern coast of Taiwan on Wednesday, January 17. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake struck roughly 8 km (5 mi) south of Keelung around 13:59 (local time) on Wednesday. Local media reported that the tremor was felt in the capital city of Taipei, with some movement of tall structures observed. No associated casualties or major infrastructure damage have been reported. However, aftershocks are possible in the affected areas in the coming hours.
