A vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) detonated in Benghazi on Tuesday, January 23, killing at least three people and leaving six others wounded. The bomb reportedly exploded near the Bait Radwan Mosque in the Al-Salmani neighborhood of the city late on Tuesday (local time) as worshippers were leaving the mosque after evening prayers. A second VBIED exploded in the Al-Salmani area shortly after the first explosion, according to local sources.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombings; details of the attack are still emerging. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are expected in the affected area in the coming hours.

Tuesday's car bombing attack follows an IED attack in Al-Salam, Benghazi, on January 22.
