Lebanon: Transportation strike postponed to February 15

Transportation unions representing taxi, truck, and private bus drivers announced on Tuesday, January 30, that they have postponed a planned general strike to Thursday, February 15. The union leaders reportedly delayed the strike to give more time for negotiations with the government. The strike was originally planned for Thursday, February 1. The unions are demanding the reversal of a plan to privatize vehicle inspection and registration centers. Furthermore, the unions are protesting against an increase in fees at the centers as well as against the presence of private driver and ridesharing services such as Uber and Careem.
