Warning

Event

The Egyptian Metrological Authority (EMA) forecasts that hazardous weather conditions will affect large parts of the country over the week January 22-26. Strong winds and heavy rain are expected on Egypt's northern coasts, down to Cairo, Suez, and Upper Egypt on Wednesday and Thursday. Storm surges of up to 3.5 m (11.5 ft) are likely on the country's Mediterranean coast, while surges of up to 1.5 m (5 ft) are possible in the Red Sea. Starting on Thursday, dusty winds are expected in the northern areas of the country, with the potential to reduce visibility and disrupt road and air traffic. Individuals with respiratory conditions may be affected by the dust.

Consequent transportation disruptions, including air, ground traffic, and ferry disruptions, are possible in the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions and potentially hazardous conditions, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
