China/Taiwan: Plans for cross-strait flights blocked

Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) announced on Friday, January 19, that it had blocked plans by Chinese airlines (China Eastern Airlines and Xiamen Air) to start flying some 200 new flights along four new flight paths crossing the strait between China and Taiwan. Some 50,000 potential passengers are affected by the CAA’s decision.

These flight paths were introduced by China without consulting Taiwan; the CAA has deemed them to be politically motivated and a danger flight safety.
