Ukraine: Some hostages released in Kharkiv /update 1

Armed man releases five hostages, including three women and two children, after barricading himself in a post office in Kharkiv December 30; avoid the area

Media sources reported that an armed man who took a number of people hostage at a post office in Kharkiv has released some of the hostages. Three women and two children were released following negotiations with police officers. According to local media sources, the man is still holding at least four other people. Yaroslav Trakalo, a spokesperson for the National Police, said that the man claims he has an explosive belt and is ready to use it but he has not issued any demands. Avoid the area.

Context

The man barricaded himself in a Ukroposta office on the intersection of Shevchenko and Matyushenko Streets at approximately 15:00 (local time). Police officers have cordoned off the area and a bomb disposal unit has been deployed.
