Warning

Event

The Ghana-Togo Solidarity Movement group plans to demonstrate on Saturday, December 30, in Accra’s Kawukudi Park between 09:00 and noon (local time) in solidarity with Togolese opposition activists who have been protesting in their country since August. Traffic disruptions are likely around the vicinity of the event and violence between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Context

Numerous opposition sit-ins and marches - some of which have turned violent - have been held throughout Togo since mid-August. The demonstrations have been organized by various opposition groups to demand that President Faure Gnassingbé, who has been in power since 2005, step down.

Advice

Those present in Accra are advised to keep abreast of the situation and avoid any protests.
