Storm alerts in effect December 13 in northern French Guiana; flooding possible

The French meteorological authorities (Météo France) have issued an orange alert (the second-highest on a four-point scale) for the northeast of French Guiana, where heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Wednesday, December 13. Up to 18 cm (7 in) of rain is expected in a 24-hour period, which could trigger flooding and/or mudslides. A lesser yellow alert is in effect for the northwest, where up to 10 cm (4 in) of rain is forecast. Related transportation disruptions and power outages are possible.

The alerts are currently set to remain in place until 18:00 (local time) on Wednesday.
