Belgium: Rail strike and mass protest in Brussels Dec. 19

National rail strike to take place Tuesday, December 19; mass protests in Brussels

Warning

Event

The Belgian railway union CGSP Cheminots and its Flemish counterpart ACOD Spoor are set to hold a strike on Tuesday, December 19. The strike is coinciding with a mass demonstration taking place in Brussels between the Gare du Nord and Midi-Zuid railway stations, organized to protest proposed pension reforms. The protest is expected to paralyze the capital. However, the STIB (Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company), which operates public transportation in the Brussels region, has announced that services will continue to operate as normal.

Advice

Travelers are advised to confirm rail reservations, avoid protests as a precaution, and allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
