Security measures have been increased in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi state, ahead of a visit by President Muhammadu Buhari taking place on Tuesday, November 14. It was reported that over the weekend of November 11-12 an increased number of armed soldiers and armored vehicles were patrolling the streets of the city. Associated transportation disruptions are to be expected due to various security measures likely to be put in place for the occasion (road closures, security checkpoints, etc.).

President Buhari is visiting Ebonyi state to commission a number of infrastructure projects. The visit is also expected to help improve relations with the state’s residents ahead of the 2019 general elections. Ebonyi state is currently run by Governor Dave Umahi, a member of the opposition People's Democratic Party.
