Iceland: Increased activity at Öræfajökull Volcano

The Icelandic Met Office issued a warning on Friday, November 17, regarding higher than normal levels of volcanic activity at Öræfajökull Volcano in the country's southeast. Context

Volcanic activity is common in Iceland. In 2010, the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano erupted, resulting in widespread ash that paralyzed international air traffic for several days.

Individuals in Iceland are advised to keep abreast of the situation - including possible flight disruptions in case of an uptick in volcanic activity - and to follow any instructions issued by the local authorities (e.g. potential evacuation orders).
