London Underground drivers call off strike for October 5; railway strikes still planned to go ahead

On Tuesday, October 3, London Underground (Tube) drivers called off plans to strike on Thursday, October 5. Union representatives reportedly called off the strike after making progress in negotiations with government representatives.
A separate 24-hour train strike, organized by members of the Rail, Maritime, and Transport (RMT) union at Southern Railway, Merseyrail, Arriva Rail North, Greater Anglia, and South Western Railway, is still set to go ahead on Thursday, October 5. Some 300,000 passengers are expected to be affected.
