Mali: Attack and kidnapping at Mourdiah police post (southwest) Sep. 25

Event

Unidentified armed men attacked a police post in Mourdiah, Koulikoro region (southwest), overnight September 24-25. The assailants reportedly ransacked and set fire to police premises before abducting three people. No group has claimed responsibility.

Context

Due to the presence of various armed groups, Mali's northern and central regions remain unstable despite a French-led intervention launched in 2013 that drove many extremists from their strongholds. France maintains approximately 4000 troops stationed throughout the Sahel.
