Moscow's municipal government has permitted a rally against internet censorship, to be held in the capital on Sunday, July 23. Organizers expect 10,000 protesters to gather at Strastnoy Boulevard at 13:00 (local time), marching to Sakharov Avenue. Related protests may be held across other cities.

Context

The "For free internet" march has been organised by liberal opposition party People's Freedom Party (PARNAS), whose previous applications to hold demonstrations in the capital have been rejected. The planned demonstration is the latest in a series of protests held against internet censorship in the country, also demanding the exoneration of Russian nationals who have been prosecuted for posting online content deemed illegal. The protesters are additionally demanding the resignation of Alexander Zharov, head of Russia's federal censor Roskomnadzor.
