Trinidad and Tobago: Riverside flood alerts November 16

Weather service issues orange flood alerts for the entire island of Trinidad November 16; risk highest along Caroni Basin

Warning

Event

The Trinidadian weather service has issued an orange alert - the second-highest level - for the entire island of Trinidad due to the risk of riverside flooding. Rivers are nearing critical levels, notably along the Caroni Basin. Some minor flooding had already been reported as of Thursday, November 15. The alert is currently set to remain in effect until at least 18:00 (local time) on Friday. Localized traffic disruptions are possible.

Advice

Individuals present in Trinidad are advised to monitor local weather reports and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
